What is Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)?

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a specific and persistent difficulty with understanding and/or using spoken language. It affects a person's ability to communicate, learn, and socialise. DLD is a lifelong condition, and it's a diagnosis given when language difficulties cannot be explained by other conditions, such as autism, hearing impairment or a more general learning disability.

It is estimated that DLD affects approximately 2 children in every classroom of 30, making it a relatively common developmental disorder. It can significantly impact a child's educational progress, social relationships, and emotional well-being.

How we support within therapy:

 Our team of experienced and qualified Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) can provide a comprehensive and supportive service for your family. We then provide tailored, individual therapy sessions that are fun and engaging for your child. Our therapists use evidence-based strategies and techniques to help your child develop their language skills.

 We focus on areas such as:

   * Building vocabulary.

   * Improving sentence structure and grammar.

   * Developing storytelling and narrative skills.

   * Enhancing listening and comprehension.

   * Facilitating social communication skills.

Early identification and intervention are crucial for children with DLD. If you have any concerns about your child's language development, please contact us for a consultation.

All of our new children require an initial assessment prior to child-led therapy. This allows our therapist to identify your child's strengths, areas of interest and individual differences to ensure a high standard of care that is tailored to them.
